Film Review

Mandela Long Walk To Freedom.

A film of Nelson Mandela’s’ life.

This film was directed by Justin Chadwick.

Screen Play by William Nicholson.

Autobiography Nelson Mandela.

The film stars: Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela.

And Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela.

Plus a host of other stars.

The film starts in the dirty streets of South Africa, amongst the hovels that the black people living there have to call home.

You see Nelson leaving home in a car in the dead of night, going to one of his meetings with other black men which have to be kept secret.

You hear the screams of mothers as their sons and husbands are dragged out of their homes.

I won’t tell you the whole story as there would be no point in you seeing it if you haven’t seen it already.

They say he was a terrorist, but I don’t believe that it seems to me he was trying to help his people to get freedom from the poverty and injustice that was going on in South Africa. These people are not just stragglers coming in from somewhere else, you realize that it is their country in the first place.

Now Winnie Mandela is looked upon by a lot of people as an evil monster, but she wasn’t always this way, the first few years that her husband was on Robyn Island the police used to go round to her house and dragged her out of bed and then keep her locked up for months on end, she never knew where her kids were and if they were safe, but luckily her neighbours were good, and looked after her children for her until she was finally released.

She was always released with no charges pressed against her, I think she finally snapped.

This film is a very good film it brought tears to my eyes. I think it will bring a tear to yours too. If you want to see good over evil then this film is for you.

The Taste Of The Caribbean In The United Kingdom

                              Manchester.

Veronica Gilkes Restaurant Letter.

My Dear Liz,

We have been together these past nine years, and I know I am not the easiest person to live with, some would say you deserve a medal, but I am going to try to do better than that.

We are going to my favorite restaurant  Mama Flo’s.

We are going this week on Friday night, as that is the final night for the two for one meal deal. I will come and pick you up at six-forty-five, so that we will be in plenty of time to sit and relax while we wait for our meal, with a drink in hand of course.

Not for me though, as I am driving and will settle for a nice cup of tea.

You have got to try Mama Flo’s famous Guinness punch, it is unbelievably strong but it’s a mellow taste.

Maybe try her carrot juice instead, it doesn’t really matter what you have the choice is yours.

I know that you are going to love Mama Flo’s, just as I do after all you have been brought up on Caribbean food, and I know your likes and dislikes.

Menu.

Meat & Poultry.

Jerk Chicken Rice and Peas or Plain Rice or even chips.

Stewed Chicken, Fried Chicken, Steak & Sweet Pepper.

Curry Goat, Lamb Chops, Cow Foot & Beans, Oxtail & Beans Curried Steak, BBQ Ribs.

Fish.

Ackee & Saltfish, Callaloo & Saltfish, Browned Snapper, Grilled Salmon, Steamed Snapper.

Soup of the day.

Sweet Corn Soup, home- made Oxtail Soup.

The Soup menu changes every day.

Sundries.

Coleslaw (Mama Flo) makes her own.

Chips

Chips and Gravy

Patties, Meat, Fish.

Saltfish Fritters (my personal favorite)

They just melt in your mouth you can’t help but order more.

All Desserts are homemade.

So you better leave some room, soul food is very filling so you best not eat anything before we go out or there will be no room.

Carrot Cake, Apple Pie, Cornflake Pie, Jam Roly Poly, Banana Fritters.

Drinks.

Wine, Rum, Larger. And of course Mama Flo’s Famous punches. Carrot, Guinness Punch, Peanut Punch, Sour Sop Juice. And last but no means least Pineapple Punch.

Mama Flo’s also serves Tea or Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and soft fizzy drinks.

Now I know you are going to love it, I have booked a table for two, and we can sit down and listen to the sounds of the Caribbean courtesy of the well-hidden speakers on the wall, and the sound of the late great Robert Nesta Marley.

As you sit at our table with the white linen tablecloths and placemats with the scenes of the Caribbean on them, you can relax and I swear you can hear the sea. And feel the light breeze of the palm trees flutter by your face.

When the food comes, you will like the way the meat or fish seem to dissolve on your tongue, and the puddings you just want more.

I wish I could take you to the Caribbean, but this is all I can do at this moment in time.

I do hope you love this place as much as I do.

If not here is my promise to you, if you do not love it as much as I do, and it’s not up to your standards. I will take you to the restaurant of your choice anywhere in the United Kingdom. And I will pay for everything we eat and drink. Now I can’t say fairer than that, can I?

I think you will love it as much as I do or more.

But just to show you that this place is the best in Manchester, here are some reviews from repeat customers.

Are you too old to write?

The answer to that question is a resounding NO!

After all, these days they expect us to work until we can’t get out of bed anymore.

And then they will come and check.

If your not dead, then they will expect you to work. What about all the work pensioners have done for this country already how much more do they expect you to work, after all by the time most of us reach pension age there will be no pension.

Freelance writing is definitely the way to go.

After all, you can stay at home in your jimjams all day in front of the computer writing when you want to write.

But that’s not all there is to it, and anyway some want to be outside getting the fresh air into your lungs, when it’s not raining.

But this is a job you can do from anywhere, as long as you have a Wi-Fi connection, you can write where ever you like.

With age comes experience, and you do know a lot more than most seeing as you have already lived it.

I was once told I was a baby, in the writing game as it seems at my age I have no idea how many great writers there are out there that have great writing skills.

I know it is said you are never too old to do anything you put your mind to, and there is no ageism in writing, or at least you hope not.

So before the government compel you to work until your almost dead, take your life in your own hands and maybe try writing.

As they say we all have a book in us somewhere, so let’s find it. This could be our new “High”.

Instead of breaking our backs on some shop floor.

Haven’t we worked hard enough, I am not saying that writing is easy because it’s not. You have a lot to learn, but you can enjoy it as you go along.

If you want to write just go ahead and do it.

I am and I thoroughly enjoy it, even though it is very hard work at times, but hard work never killed anyone.

You have already worked hard, so mastering this writing game should be a cinch for you.

Who am I?

Hi, To all who may read this.

My name is Veronica Gilkes.

I am a freelance writer and blogger, I am starting this blog to help people with their problems.

Whatever problems you may have with regards to writing or blogging or technology, I will help you and if I don’t know the answer, I will find out.

It’s pretty overwhelming to put a post out to millions of people, and you just don’t know how they will react. But you have to keep going.

Not everyone will like you or what you say, but you have to keep on trying, someone somewhere will like what you have to say, and also what you can do for them, that is the most important thing, what you can do for them.

Can you make them money?

Can you solve their problem?

Can you get their business in front of millions of eager fans?

Who will be only too happy to want to be in business with the company?

It’s all about keeping your clients happy, if you can keep them happy then you have a life long client that you can easily work with.

So do your very best, do more than your best and you will have happy clients that are only too happy to pay you for your services.

Blogging is not just about money though, you have to enjoy it because if you don’t it will show in your writing.

And that will not be good.

Show the joy of your writing, and you will have clients coming back for more, and then they will pass on your writing to others that they know in the business and soon you will have so much work that you will need to hire others to help you out.

Before you know it, you will have your own business up and running and keeping clients and your fans very happy.

Give them 110% go the extra mile, and you will have work for many years to come.

You should always make sure that you put your clients first, it has to be about them.
